A Win and a Miracle

This morning I went in for my second MRI to assess how the breast cancer tumor was responding to chemotherapy. I had not been feeling well the past few days—nausea, digestive issues, and dizziness had left me uneasy—so I walked in carrying some nerves. While waiting for my turn, I decided to quiet myself and access peace by conversing with God.

As I sat there in prayer, the MRI door opened and out walked a little elderly Black woman, her hair a crown of gray. She must have been in her seventies. She looked at me, smiled warmly, and said, “What a beautiful bald head… is this for breast cancer?” Before I could respond, she began to tell me her victorious story of overcoming the very disease I was sitting there to be treated for.

I immediately teared up. I have always loved grandma-like women. I was raised by my grandmother early on, and their presence has always felt like home to me. They carry a peace, wisdom, and resilience that somehow transfers to whoever they touch. In that waiting room, her presence gave me the strength I had been seeking in my quiet prayer only moments before.

Not only is God always on time, but He also knows exactly what we need. I had gone inward to find peace, but God exceeded that by sending an elderly woman to speak life over me in the waiting room. My body stayed calm during the entire procedure, and peace covered me from start to finish. And if that wasn’t enough, just as I was leaving, my brother texted me with the news that our proposal for a community event had been accepted.

That day was more than an appointment. It was a win and a miracle, wrapped together by God’s faithfulness.

Reflection

That MRI morning reminded me that God shows up in the most unexpected ways. I went in nervous and weary, but through the words of an elderly woman, He gave me peace. Through her testimony, I was reminded that this disease does not have the final say. God used her to remind me that I was not alone and that victory is possible.

Lesson

We often seek peace by going inward, but God delights in sending people to confirm His promises. He knows the exact voice, the exact face, and the exact moment we need encouragement. Peace is not always found in solitude but in the community of those who carry wisdom and resilience before us.
